  • Australians voted for real action on climate change

    (Tue, 07 Sep 2010 00:00:01 +1000)

WWF congratulates Julia Gillard on becoming the next Prime Minister of Australia, and calls on Ms Gillard to use the opportunity to implement a price on carbon as her number one priority in this term of government.

"A key reason the Greens and Independents Tony Windsor and Rob Oakeshott chose to support a Labor Government is because of a desire for strong action on climate change," said Dermot O'Gorman, WWF-Australia's CEO.

"Prime Minister Gillard must now work with the Parliament to ensure action is taken."

  • Australia a step closer to action on climate change

"The Australian public has said time and time again that they want action on climate change and that they support a price on pollution.

"However, it is disappointing that no time frame was set for introducing legislation. The...

A US-based study released late last week shows a mother's exposure to organophosphate (OP) pesticides during pregnancy was a strong predictor of attention-related problems in her child.

OP pesticides are used in Australia on fruit and vegetable crops, sugar cane, cotton, cereals and pastures, home gardens and on food-producing and domestic animals.

"In Australia we are told over and again that authorised pesticides are safe yet we are...
